Saving lives and saving money seems to be rather too-good-to-be-true ideas and plans right? Well, actually it is a legitimate concept which also becomes a title of a book by Newt Gingrich “Saving Lives and Saving Money”. Firstly printed and sold at 2003 the book has offer an idea that a better healthcare system will lead to better and bigger productivity rates for our economy. The writer’s idea has won many fans since its first release who find that the idea really make sense to the current situation.

Bad health care system is influencing systematically to an individual’s productivity. For example: A skilled blue-collar worker get sick, he didn’t want or couldn’t get a proper treatment because he was uninsured and it would cost a fortune to get treatment without insurance. The worker becomes sicker by the day at the point he couldn’t attend work for weeks. The company, despite still needing his skill has to lay him off. A lost-lost situation here as the worker lost his job and the company lost one of their best workers which could affect on their productivity.

With a better health care system, for instance, the worker will get treatment as soon as he feel unwell and minimize the time of him missed the job. The company will still have their productivity rate high and the worker can get home healthy with paychecks from the company. It’s actually saving lives and saving money.

In addition, the concept of saving lives and saving money is also come in “no smoking campaign around the USA. Smoking is still one of the biggest enemy of nation’s health as each year it costing $96 billion in direct health care and killing more than 400, 000 Americans. The campaign said that strong policies to control tobacco circulation in the market have positive effect on general healthiness and economic development to cities that enacted them. The studies also said that the higher tobacco tax in a state the higher the health costs and number of lives saved.  It’s one great example of implementation of the saving lives and saving money concept.
